1000 Books Before Kindergarten
Research has shown that reading to young children positively impacts school success. Reading aloud helps children develop vocabulary, increase letter recognition, and improve their comprehension and narrative skills that are essential for learning to read. Parents engaged in sharing books with their children are fostering a lifelong love of books and reading. Get started with 1000 Books Before Kindergarten now!
Q: What is “1000 Books Before Kindergarten”?
A: A program to encourage preschool literacy.
Q: How does it work?
A: 1. Sign up at the Library and receive a log.
2. Read to your child and write down the titles in the log.
Borrow 1000 BBK bookbags. Each bookbag has 10 different books. Get different bookbags from different Libraries.
3. Every 100 books read, come to the Library to get new logs and certificates.
4. Your child will receive a FREE BOOK when they finish reading 500! (while supplies last)
Q: How do I sign up?
A: Sign up at the Glenolden Library Circulation Desk. You will be given a Reading Log.
Q: What else should I know?
A: There will be an Information & Kick-Off Event on Thursday, February. 13 at 5:30 p.m.
